Mr. Blackburn is skilled at developing IP strategies that are aligned with a client’s business objectives. Services are provided in four primary areas:

• Offense - High-value, global or country-specific strategies to leverage maximum returns from IP;
• Defense - Creative global or country-specific defensive strategies against third-party IP; and
• Due Diligence - IP evaluations in connection with transactions, investments or audits.
• Expert Witness - Mr. Blackburn is also avalable to serve as an expert witness in areas related to intellectual property.

Each consulting engagement involves a unique combination of services.  Representative elements of a strategy can include:

• Meshing patent filing strategies with R&D, business development, regulatory and/or M&A strategies;
• Adjusting “home country-centric” IP strategies to foreign markets;
• Identification of IP that will have maximum impact on competitors;
• Defensive IP creation/acquisition;
• Increasing return on IP investment;
• Designing litigation, opposition, and/or interference strategies tailored to a business objective;
• Assembly and/or coordination of national or transnational IP teams; and
• Objective evaluation of US vs. foreign forums.

Strategies developed are typically implemented through existing in-house or outside counsel. Alternatively, an extensive global network of top-tier counsel can be accessed for referral. Mr. Blackburn's practice is limited to the above and similar services, and does not include (other than in an advisory manner) the direct preparation or prosecution of patent applications or other matters.
